The Ministry of Luweero – Triangle has held a memorial service in the memory of the fallen veterans who sacrificed their lives to liberate the country.
The service took place at St Peter’s Church Kalasa where five people including a priest of the Church were killed by President Milton Obote’s army on accusations of being rebels and supporting the NRA rebel leader then,Yoweri Museveni who had then launched a war against Obote’s government.
Greater Luweero was the epicenter of the five-year guerrilla war (between 1981 and 1986) that ushered Museveni ’s government to power in 1986 but the opposition politicians have always slammed the government for neglecting the area in the last 37 years it has been in power.
Ronald Ndawula the NRM chairperson of Luweero district in yesterday’s church service requested President Museveni to make Luweero- “mecca” a reality.
Hon Alice K Kaboyo, the State Minister for Luweero- Triangle pledged to work on the problems of the veterans and build heroes’ monuments as she had promised before.
The service was among others attended by the 3rd Deputy Prime Minister Hon Rukia Nakadama who was the guest of honour, several Members of Parliament, civil servants and local leaders. Former minister Al Haji Naduli was among the guests.
