”Bazungu Seen At Night Helping Army To Vandalize Our NUP Offices, Nothing Was Spared”–Says Bobi Wine As Police Breaks Silence On Exhibits Recovered

By Our Reporter

Tension and panic have surged among the opposition members following a high-profile security operation carried out by the Uganda Police Force and military at the National Unity Platform (NUP) headquarters in Kavule, Makerere, and their School of Leadership in Kamwokya. On February 21, 2025, security forces stormed these key locations, blocking roads and restricting access to the premises, sending shockwaves through the opposition.

The raids were conducted in response to reports of “unauthorized military drills” allegedly taking place at NUP premises. According to the Uganda Police Force, the operation was part of a coordinated effort to address national security concerns.

A statement released by the police on February 22 explained that the search at Kamwokya had been completed the day prior, while the operation at Kavule concluded on the afternoon of February 22. The police confirmed that several exhibits were recovered, which would be used as evidence in future investigations.

However, NUP leader Bobi Wine quickly took to social media to express his outrage and condemn the operation. Using his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Bobi Wine described the raid as a chilling example of the regime’s fear and aggression, accusing the security forces of deliberately targeting the opposition. He painted a grim picture of the aftermath, claiming that the operatives had ransacked the premises, destroyed property, and seized vital materials.

“The situation at the NUP School of Leadership in Kamwokya after the raid by the rogue regime. They have taken away all the books in our library, all computers, all t-shirts, and other materials at the shop. They have ransacked all offices and taken away all important documents. Not a single document was left on the noticeboard! They broke all doors and shattered some glass,” Bobi Wine posted.

He also raised concerns about the involvement of foreigners in the operation, stating, “Neighbors at Kavule tell us that some of the operatives currently inside our offices seem to be foreigners of East-Asian descent.”

In addition to sharing disturbing images of the destruction, including overturned bookshelves, broken doors, and vacant office spaces, Bobi Wine alleged that the authorities had planted incriminating materials to justify the raid. He accused the government of orchestrating a campaign of intimidation and repression against the opposition.

While the police maintained that their actions were lawful and aimed at safeguarding national security, Bobi Wine and other NUP leaders argued that the raids were part of a broader effort to suppress dissent and silence opposition voices. He further attributed the actions to President Museveni and his son, claiming that they were using these operations to stifle political engagement and intimidate their critics.

The police have emphasized that the raids were necessary to address the alleged security threats posed by unauthorized military drills, but NUP leaders contend that these actions are part of an ongoing campaign to suppress opposition voices ahead of the upcoming elections.
