”Opposition Is Not A Threat, It’s Like A Married Woman Who Has Failed To Conceive”-Museveni’s Chief Muzzukulu Namyalo

By Frank Kamuntu

The Manager of the Office of the NRM National Chairman (ONC), Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, has downplayed the political strength of the National Unity Platform (NUP) and opposition parties in general, describing them as a mere challenge rather than a force capable of shifting Uganda’s political landscape.

Speaking at the introduction ceremony of Hon. Faisal Kikulukunyu’s daughter, Ms. Rukia, in Butambala District on February 22, Namyalo ‘smashed’ Butambala MP Hon. Muwanga Kivumbi, who had praised NUP during the event. She insisted that while the opposition party exists, its impact remains limited, stating, “NUP is just a challenge but not a problem.”

While acknowledging political competition, Namyalo emphasized that Uganda operates under a democratic system where leaders are chosen through elections. Using a metaphor, she likened NUP’s inability to secure a win in 2021 to a woman failing to conceive after years of marriage, suggesting that the opposition party had failed to convince Ugandans to entrust them with leadership.

However, rather than fueling political divisions, the ONC boss extended an olive branch, reaffirming that despite ideological differences, NUP supporters remain Ugandan citizens and are part of the country’s future.

She highlighted that the NRM’s empowerment programs are meant for all Ugandans, regardless of their political affiliation, stressing that development should transcend political rivalries.

As Uganda heads towards 2026 elections, Namyalo’s remarks reflect the NRM’s strategy of maintaining political dominance while positioning itself as an inclusive force.

By dismissing NUP’s threat while still acknowledging its existence, her message sought to reassure supporters of the ruling party’s continued influence while also appealing to opposition supporters to embrace national unity over political differences.

Her comments add to the ongoing political debate about the readiness and strength of opposition parties in Uganda’s evolving democracy.
