Yoweri Museveni and Janet Museveni’s love story is one that has both romantic and historical significance. They met in the 1970s while Museveni was studying in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. At the time, Janet was a student at the Makerere University in Uganda, and Museveni was involved in the liberation struggle.

Their initial encounter occurred in 1973 when Janet, then a university student, had a chance meeting with Museveni through mutual friends. Museveni, who was a member of a group advocating for change in Uganda, had become a prominent figure in political circles. Janet, who came from a conservative Christian family, was initially intrigued by him.

In the early years of their relationship, Museveni was engaged in the struggle against Uganda’s political instability, while Janet was focused on her studies. Despite the political tension and Museveni’s involvement in the liberation struggle, the two built a strong connection based on their shared values, and they eventually began courting.

They got married in 1973 when Janet was 23 and Museveni was 29. They have since been married for over four decades and have raised a family together. Janet has been an important figure in Uganda’s political and social landscape, serving as Uganda’s First Lady and as the Minister of Education and Sports.

Their relationship is often seen as one of mutual respect and shared goals, both in terms of personal values and their dedication to the country.

Yoweri Museveni and Janet Museveni have five children. While some of their children, like Muhoozi, are well-known in the public and political spheres, others lead more private lives, away from the media attention.
