At least five people have been confirmed dead and 21 others injured in a devastating road crash that occurred on the night of March 5, 2025, at Mayanja Valley along the Kampala-Bombo Road.

According to Uganda Police Traffic Spokesperson Michael Kananura, the tragic accident involved nine motor vehicles and one motorcycle. The vehicles included several commuter taxis (Toyota Hiaces), a Fuso truck, a Toyota Corolla, a Toyota Noah, and a Yamaha motorcycle.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the accident was caused by the driver of a Fuso Super Grande truck (UBK 769A), which was traveling from Kampala to Bombo. The driver reportedly lost control while descending a slope at Mayanja Valley, resulting in a **massive collision** with other vehicles and a motorcycle traveling in the same direction.

“The incident instantly killed five occupants in other vehicles and one motorcycle rider, while injuring 21 passengers in the taxis,” Kananura stated.

The injured victims were immediately rushed to Mulago Hospital for medical treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were taken to Mulago City Mortuary for post-mortem examinations. Meanwhile, all the vehicles involved have been towed to Kawempe Police Station for further inspection as investigations into the cause of the crash continue.

Following the accident, authorities have urged all motorists to prioritize road safety to prevent such tragic incidents.

“We urge all motorists to ensure their vehicles are well-maintained, adhere to speed limits, and drive defensively,” Kananura emphasized.

The Kampala-Bombo Road is a key highway linking Uganda’s capital to northern parts of the country. However, it has been notorious for accidents, with over-speeding, reckless driving, and mechanical failures cited as common causes of crashes.

As police continue their investigations, road safety advocates are calling for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations to prevent further loss of lives on Uganda’s roads.
