Its A New Era! Pregnant Woman Who Traveled To America To Give Birth Deported Upon Arrival

By Our Reporter

She disclosed that she was put on the next available flight back to Nigeria after she regained consciousness.

A lady has narrated how she was deported while pregnant after arriving in the United States of America.

She had gone to the country to give birth but was deported after arriving at the airport and her visa was revoked.

She took to TikTok to share her experience.

She said:

“Playing with my daughter ’cause life didn’t end when I went to America to give birth to her but was denied entry into the country and my visa cancelled. With the stress, I fell into labour, and was rushed to the hospital in Houston.”

”Immediately I became a bit okay, they put me on the next available flight back to Nigeria, and my husband offered for me to go somewhere. I was too traumatized to embark on another journey. I have lost a child before. Furthermore, I wasn’t going to overstress this baby, I decided to remain in Nigeria.”

The suspension of women traveling to the U.S. to give birth typically refers to policies aimed at curbing birth tourism, where pregnant women travel to the U.S. to give birth so their child can obtain birthright citizenship.

In 2020, the U.S. government implemented stricter visa regulations to prevent this practice. The State Department changed its B-1/B-2 visitor visa rules, stating that traveling to the U.S. primarily to give birth was no longer a valid reason for a tourist visa. U.S. consular officers were given the authority to deny visas if they believed a woman was traveling primarily to obtain U.S. citizenship for her child.

This policy was aimed at preventing misuse of the 14th Amendment, which grants citizenship to anyone born on U.S. soil. However, it faced criticism for being discriminatory, particularly against women from certain countries with higher instances of birth tourism.
