President Yoweri Museveni on Monday hosted former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo at State House Entebbe, where the two leaders discussed security issues in the region and trade prospects between Uganda and Nigeria.

Museveni shared details of the meeting on X, highlighting Obasanjo’s interest in following up on business opportunities, particularly in Uganda’s dairy sector.

“This afternoon, I welcomed H.E. Gen. Obasanjo, the former President of Nigeria, at State House Entebbe. We discussed the security situation in the region and H.E was here to follow up on trade opportunities between Uganda and Nigeria, particularly in the dairy sector. I would like to extend a warm welcome to him,” Museveni stated.

Obasanjo, a respected statesman and mediator in African conflicts, has been involved in peace efforts across the continent.

His meeting with Museveni comes at a time when the East African region faces various security challenges, including tensions in the Democratic Republic of Congo and ongoing instability in Sudan.

Beyond security, Uganda has been pushing to expand its dairy exports, with Nigeria seen as a key market.

The West African nation has a large demand for dairy products, and Uganda’s growing dairy industry has been seeking new trade partnerships.

While no further details were provided, the visit underscores the deepening diplomatic and economic ties between the two countries.
