Prominent Ugandan activist and UNAIDS Executive Director Winnie Byanyima has raised concerns over the whereabouts of Uganda Law Society (ULS) President Isaac Ssemakadde.

In a strongly worded statement, Winnie Byanyima questioned whether Ssemakadde had been silenced, calling for his return to the public space.

“Where is Isaac Ssemakadde? Has he been silenced? We need him back,” Winnie Byanyima posted.

Isaac Ssemakadde, known for his fearless criticism of government policies and human rights violations, has been noticeably absent from major legal and political debates in recent weeks.

His disappearance from public discourse has raised questions about whether he is facing intimidation, legal threats, or self-imposed silence.

Supporters and activists quickly echoed Winnie Byanyima’s concerns, with some suggesting that Ssemakadde may be under pressure from state operatives.

Others, however, argued that he may be keeping a low profile due to personal reasons or strategic legal battles behind the scenes.

Isaac Ssemakadde has been a thorn in the side of Ugandan authorities, often challenging government excesses and advocating for the rule of law.

His legal activism has earned him both admiration and hostility, with critics branding him a troublemaker while supporters see him as a champion of justice.

Winnie Byanyima’s call for his return has reignited discussions about freedom of speech and the shrinking civic space in Uganda.
