The long wait is over—Hon. Elias Luyimbazi Nalukoola has been officially declared the winner of the Kawempe North parliamentary by-election. The Electoral Commission has gazetted the results, paving the way for his swearing-in and subsequent service to the people of Kawempe North and Uganda at large.

According to the final tally, Luyimbazi, who contested under the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket, secured a decisive victory with 17,939 votes, significantly ahead of his closest rival, Nambi Faridah Kigongo of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), who garnered 9,058 votes.

The by-election attracted a total of 10 candidates, including independents and representatives from other political parties such as the Democratic Party (DP) and the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC). However, the contest largely centered on Luyimbazi and Nambi, with the NUP candidate emerging victorious.

The journey to this moment has not been without hurdles. Political tension, legal challenges, and calls for transparency have characterized the process, with various stakeholders putting Electoral Commission on panic to gazette Nalukoola’s results which it has finally done in accordance with Section 78(1) of the Parliamentary Elections Act, Cap. 177.

With the official results gazetted, all eyes now turn to the next step—the swearing-in ceremony. Once sworn in, Hon. Luyimbazi will take his seat in Parliament, where he is expected to champion the interests of Kawempe North and contribute to national legislative matters.

Supporters and political allies have welcomed the news, expressing optimism that Luyimbazi’s leadership will bring positive change to the constituency. As Kawempe North transitions into this new phase, expectations are high, and the electorate is eager to see how their newly elected MP delivers on his promises.
