As the 2026 elections approach, the people of Lwengo District are uniting behind a name that symbolizes hope, resilience, and integrity—Kafura Grace Magundu, a renowned human rights activist and advocate for social justice. Her candidacy for NRM Chairperson for Lwengo District (2026–2031) is more than a political bid; it’s a grassroots movement to restore leadership that prioritizes the people.

One of her most vocal supporters, Bruce Nzabanita, the NRM Youth Chairperson for Lwengo Town Council and a staunch supporter of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, is leading the charge in rallying support for Kafura’s campaign.

“Kafura Grace Magundu has spent years fighting for the voiceless, especially in central Uganda,” says Bruce. “Her name is synonymous with justice, especially for those entangled in land wrangles. Her efforts have seen numerous disputes resolved and landowners reclaim what rightfully belongs to them.”

Bruce praises Kafura’s contributions to the human rights landscape, particularly her role in supporting fellow activists and promoting peace and democracy. Her dedication, he says, has made her a trusted guardian of justice.

But Kafura is more than an activist. She is also a passionate mobilizer for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and a loyal supporter of President Museveni. Over the years, she has worked tirelessly at the grassroots level to strengthen the bond between the people and the party.

Now, as she throws her hat into the ring for NRM Chairperson, her mission is clear: to bridge the gap between local citizens and national leadership. Her supporters led by Bruce Nzabanita believe she will lobby for development, bring essential services closer to the people, and ensure that the concerns of Lwengo residents are heard at the highest levels of government.

“All the leaders who have been in NRM positions in Lwengo have failed to connect the people with the wider NRM leadership,” Bruce notes. “Even the delegate conferences that used to happen at Namboole no longer take place. There are no more local meetings to strengthen youth involvement and support for the party, this is due to selfish leaders that we have been having in Lwengo”

Bruce also criticizes current NRM leaders in Lwengo for claiming credit that rightly belongs to President Museveni.

“When the President visits Lwengo, some selfish leaders pay people to sing their praises, creating the illusion of strong grassroots support,” Bruce claims. “This misleads the President. But with Kafura, this will end. She will restore honesty and transparency.”

Kafura’s agenda includes fostering unity among NRM members in Lwengo and eliminating selfishness and internal conflict within the party. Bruce asserts that Kafura embodies the values of democracy, human rights, patriotism, and development—qualities that he says have been sorely lacking in the district’s current leadership.

“Kafura is not just a leader; she’s a problem-solver,” Bruce emphasizes. “She is skilled in conflict resolution and has already supported NRM activities by hosting meetings at her Lwengo-Malongo based Resort. She’s a businesswoman with investments in Uganda and abroad—i mean, she is a real asset to our community, we can’t miss having such a leader.”

Bruce also calls on the NRM’s top leadership, including Rosemary Sseninde and Namayanja Rose, to stop allowing leaders to hold multiple positions, which he says overburdens them and limits their effectiveness.

“An NRM Chairperson should not be an MP, LCV, or hold other demanding offices,” Bruce argues. “They should live with the people, not run the district from Kampala. Kafura lives among us, understands our struggles, and has the time and commitment to serve fully.”

As the campaign gains momentum, the message from the electorate is unmistakable: “Londa Kafura Grace Magundu!” There is a growing determination to replace inactive leaders with one who truly represents and fights for the people.

With her clean track record, deep community roots, and bold vision for the future, Kafura Grace Magundu stands as the beacon of change for Lwengo. As 2026 nears, supporters like Bruce are ensuring her message reaches every corner of the district.
