UNEB Breaks Silence On Exam Trading Scandal: Two Staff Nabbed Breaking Into Exam System

By Our Reporter

The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has officially responded to circulating social media allegations claiming that some of its staff were involved in altering examination scores in exchange for money.

In a press statement dated May 2, 2025, the Board firmly denied the claims, reiterating its zero-tolerance stance on examination malpractice, particularly the manipulation of candidates’ marks.

According to the Executive Director Dan N. Odongo, UNEB’s internal security systems flagged suspicious activities involving two staff members attempting to tamper with examination results. The Board’s multi-layered security protocols enabled the rapid detection and prevention of the tampering effort.

The Board emphasized that while the social media reports suggested a longstanding malpractice ring involving over 20 staff members and schools since 2018, no such widespread breach was found. Investigations confirmed the involvement of only the two individuals initially identified, with no evidence indicating past or ongoing security violations.

As part of its disciplinary measures:

  • The two implicated officers were immediately handed over to police authorities.
  • They faced internal disciplinary hearings where they admitted to their actions, stating it was their first attempt.
  • Both individuals were subsequently dismissed from UNEB due to the gross violation of the institution’s ethical standards.

UNEB further reassured the public that re-validation of results from the affected centers showed no alterations had been successfully executed in the system.

In conclusion, the Board urged the public to remain calm and avoid panic over unverified social media reports, asserting that its Quality Assurance measures remain effective in safeguarding the integrity of Uganda’s national examinations.

For more updates, UNEB advised the public to rely on official channels rather than unofficial online narratives.
