Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni says he has finally tested negative for Covid-19, eleven days since he contracted the virus on June 7.
Museveni’s announcement must be a big blow to some of the heartless opposition elements who have been praying for him to succumb to COVID-19.
In a statement released on Sunday, Museveni said tests conducted showed that the virus was no longer in his body system after a series of positive results over the period.
“On the war with corona, it is now confirmed that I am a veteran graduate of the war with that enemy. Today, the samples showed that I had turned negative vis a vis corona,” he said.
“Even the samples of Wednesday last, had showed reduced presence of the virus parts. The Glory goes to God,” he added.
The President gave a chronology of his battle with the virus stating that he had initially ignored signs of the virus in his body until he developed a running nose.
He said upon examination by his doctor, it was found that he had very low Vitamin D levels, a condition that predisposed him to severe Covid-19 infection.
“Unbelievable! My Vitamin D levels were very low, my Vitamin B 12 were very low etc. Imagine the President of Uganda is malnourished to the detriment of his life,” Museveni said.
“I immediately started taking the vitamins and soon that front was robust. Then we had the immunization and boosters,” he added.
In admitting that his situation bordered on negligence in the management of his own personal health, the President called on health managers in the country to focus on promoting disease prevention instead of waiting for people to get ill so they can administer curative care.
“Why did I have a deficiency of vitamins? Is it because I lacked the money to buy the proper food? No. It was living undone what we ought to have done and doing what we ought not to do,” Museveni said.
