Senior Presidential Advisor and Office of the National Chairman (ONC) Manager, Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, made a bold and high-stakes intervention at the Wakiso District NRM Tally Centre last evening, calling for the immediate transmission and declaration of election results amidst growing tension from candidates and their agents.
Hajjat Hadijah, known for her no-nonsense approach, visited the tally centre where she met with the district registrar, Mr. Shaban Kawooya, as well as a cross-section of candidates and their agents. Her message was clear: ensure transparency, restore calm, and respect the will of the people.
“The people of Wakiso voted. If polling ended at midday, why should there be any delay in announcing the results? We must respect the will of the people. Any unnecessary delays only raise suspicion and undermine trust in the process,” she said.
The situation intensified when one of the candidates, Mr. Andrew Kiryowa, openly voiced his dissatisfaction, accusing polling officials of deliberate foul play and sabotage. His frustration echoed growing concerns among candidates that results were being tampered with or intentionally delayed.
In a rare show of hands-on leadership, Hajjat Hadijah personally made calls to various polling station registrars across Wakiso District, urging them to expedite the transmission of official results to the tally centre without further delay.
Her intervention was seen as a firm stand for electoral integrity within the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) structures and a move to safeguard public confidence in the internal election process.
Observers at the tally centre applauded Hajjat Hadijah’s swift and assertive actions, noting that her presence helped ease tension and re-establish order during a critical phase of the tallying exercise.
The final results are expected to be declared shortly, following her directive for swift action and transparency.
