The Manager of the Office of the National Chairman (ONC), SPA Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, has kicked off the office’s Ramadan food distribution campaign in Mukono District, calling on Muslims to uphold discipline, unity, and spiritual devotion during the holy month.

The outreach began at Masjid Ulama in Kiwanga, Goma Division, and Masjid Noor in Seeta, where faithful received food relief packages at their respective mosques, before culminating at Masjid Atiiq in Mukono Town, where hundreds more gathered to benefit from the distribution exercise.

While addressing the faithful at Masjid Ulama, Hajjat Namyalo commended the Muslim fraternity for what she described as unwavering support for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni since he assumed leadership, noting that their consistency and patriotism have contributed to the country’s stability over the years.

At the same gathering, she cautioned Muslim men against entering into multiple marriages without the financial ability to adequately provide for their families.

“Yes, the Qur’an permits it and no one can object to it. But it is not a command that you must. If you sit down and examine yourself and realize you do not have the capacity, please do not make Allah’s people suffer. Leave that woman to be married by a man who is capable. Concentrate on the one wife you can support and serve perfectly,” Hajjat Namyalo advised.

On matters of socio-economic development, she urged Muslims to actively embrace government poverty eradication programmes, particularly those structured to operate without riba (interest). She explained that concerns surrounding interest-based financing were addressed following the launch of Salam Bank in 2024, which operates in line with Islamic banking principles.

She encouraged the faithful to take the lead in wealth creation initiatives by forming Savings and Credit Cooperative Organisations (SACCOs) to mobilise resources and access government support.

“Please stop lamenting about poverty year after year. Let us open our eyes and tap into the opportunities around us. Why don’t you form a SACCO now and send us, as your leaders, to source additional funding for it? Through this, you will develop and meet your life expectations, because what we need to transform our lives is financial empowerment,” she said.

Hajjat Namyalo further urged Muslims to remain humble, even when elevated to influential positions, reminding them that leadership is a trust from Allah intended to uplift the poor and vulnerable in society.

Speaking during the distribution at Masjid Atiiq in Mukono Town, SPA Namyalo said the initiative was intended to support fasting families and demonstrate solidarity with the Muslim community during Ramadan.

“On behalf of the Office of the National Chairman, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Muslim community of Mukono for the warm welcome, discipline, and unity displayed so far. This initiative is meant to stand in solidarity with fasting families during this holy month of Ramadan,” she said.

She added that the Office remains committed to promoting community welfare and ensuring that essential relief reaches vulnerable households.

“As you devote yourselves to prayer, sacrifice, and spiritual reflection, we want you to know that you are not alone. The Office of the National Chairman remains committed to supporting communities, promoting unity, and ensuring that essential relief reaches those who need it most,” SPA Namyalo noted.

The relief packages distributed included wheat flour, rice, sugar, and cooking oil, targeting vulnerable families, elderly persons, and mosque communities.

She urged Muslims to use the Ramadan period to pray for peace, stability, and continued socio-economic transformation in the country.

“Let us use this sacred season to pray for peace, stability, and continued development in our country. May Allah reward you abundantly and accept your fasting and prayers,” she said.

The ONC Ramadan outreach campaign is expected to continue across various parts of the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area and neighbouring districts in the coming days.
