In an electrifying show of unity, loyalty, and political muscle, Mbarara District turned yellow on Wednesday as President Yoweri Museveni’s younger brother, Nzeire Sedrack Kaguta, officiated the grand opening of the new NRM party offices built by the district’s newly elected chairman, Prosper Tuhaise Kururagire.
The state-of-the-art facility, located at Bwizibwera, was donated by Tuhaise and has been hailed as a symbol of grassroots rejuvenation and party revitalization in Greater Ankole.
But beyond bricks and mortar, the event sent a powerful political message: Prosper is not just an NRM figurehead—he is deeply in sync with the First Family and the party’s top hierarchy.
NRM Power Duo Cause Stir in Mbarara City
Before the event officially kicked off, Tuhaise and Nzeire made a triumphant entrance into Mbarara City, where streets came to a standstill. Throngs of jubilant supporters ran through the streets, chanting “NRM! Tuhaise! Nzeire!” as the two political juggernauts paraded through the city like rockstars.
In his keynote speech, Nzeire praised Tuhaise for advancing the core ideals of the NRM: unity, patriotism, and development.
“Prosper is a unifier. He has stood tall against divisionism, tribal politics, and sectarian games. He is building what others are trying to destroy—unity,” said Nzeire, smiling broadly throughout the event.
Taking a swipe at unnamed leaders who use identity politics to manipulate the electorate, Nzeire warned:
“We were divided along sectarian tendencies by colonialists who didn’t want us to develop. But now, some people want to drag us back into the past. We must resist them.”
He urged the electorate to reject any politician who plays the tribal or religious card, adding, “This country belongs to all of us. Uganda will not develop if we remain trapped in narrow identities.”
Tuhaise: “Divisive Leaders Will Be Disqualified”
Newly installed District Chairman Prosper Tuhaise echoed the warning, declaring that the NRM will not tolerate politicians sowing discord.
“Our people are being taken back to divisions based on tribe and religion. This must stop,” Tuhaise said firmly.
“As NRM Chairperson, I’m making it clear: anyone who promotes sectarianism will be disqualified from contesting in the party primaries. And where necessary, we’ll involve the law.”
Tuhaise’s bold stand drew thunderous applause from thousands who had gathered to witness not only the official handover of party leadership—but a new era of discipline and vision within the party.
The multimillion-shilling NRM office, built and fully furnished by Tuhaise, is now the epicenter of political coordination, mobilisation, and strategy in Mbarara. It’s not just a building—it’s a declaration.
Nzeire’s attendance and glowing praise were not lost on political observers.
In a symbolic gesture of unity and continuity, district leaders at the event unanimously endorsed Nzeire as the sole NRM candidate for Vice Chairperson of Ankole sub-region. This endorsement cements his role as a senior statesman within the party—and further elevates Tuhaise’s stature as his trusted political ally.
Nzeire Tweets His Joy
Shortly after the event, Nzeire took to X (formerly Twitter), posting:
“Privileged to officiate the grand opening of the Mbarara District NRM Offices in Bwizibwera Town Council earlier today! This modern structure symbolizes our Party’s commitment to grassroots mobilization and service delivery across Greater Ankore & the entire Nation. Grateful to the Cadres, Leaders, and Citizens who made this possible. Together, we advance NRM’s mission of Unity and Transformation!”
The Wednesday event was not just a celebration—they were a statement. Mbarara witnessed the convergence of legacy and ambition, unity and action, as Prosper Tuhaise and Nzeire Kaguta charted a new path for the NRM in Ankole.
With the First Family’s backing, a modern headquarters, and a clear anti-sectarian message, Tuhaise is now seen as a rising star with national potential, while Nzeire’s endorsement marks a pivotal moment in the race for NRM’s Ankole region’s leadership.
Together, they have shown that the party’s future in the region is not only secure—but burning brighter than ever.
