In a bold and heartfelt move, seasoned political figure Nzeire Sedrack Kaguta, brother to President Yoweri Museveni, officially declared his intention to contest for the position of NRM Vice Chairperson for the Western Region.
Surrounded by his wife, children, and close friends, Nzeire picked up his Expression of Interest forms at the NRM Secretariat — a moment he described as a “solemn step” toward deepening his commitment to the people of Western Uganda and the National Resistance Movement (NRM) at large.
“This journey is deeply rooted in our shared vision for a prosperous, united Western Uganda,” Nzeire stated during a press briefing. “With your support, we will amplify grassroots voices and accelerate meaningful development across the region.”
A pillar in the NRM’s historical framework, Nzeire is widely respected for his grassroots mobilization skills, calm demeanor, and unwavering loyalty to the party’s founding principles. His candidacy has been welcomed by a number of delegates and political observers who see him as a unifying figure with the right blend of experience and humility.
During his address, Nzeire called upon all party delegates — not only from the Western region, but across the country — to support his candidacy when voting time comes.
“I bring with me decades of practical political experience. I have walked with this party, seen its evolution, and I understand the heartbeat of our people. When that time comes, I humbly ask all delegates to vote for Nzeire Kaguta,” he said.
His entry into the race is expected to energize the NRM base, particularly in a region that has long been central to the party’s success. Supporters describe him as a grounded, people-first leader who has never distanced himself from ordinary citizens, even as his influence within the party grew.
Political analysts believe Nzeire’s candidacy may shift dynamics in the upcoming internal party elections, offering a strong, mature alternative to younger, less seasoned contenders.
As the campaign period draws closer, many are watching closely to see how Nzeire’s blend of legacy, loyalty, and local connection will resonate with voters — particularly those yearning for a leader who knows the region intimately and understands its unique challenges.
For now, the message from Nzeire is clear: service, unity, and grassroots empowerment will be the cornerstone of his leadership.
