In a fresh crackdown on land-related fraud, two individuals have been remanded to prison following their arraignment before the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Entebbe on serious charges of conspiracy to defraud, forcible entry, and unlawful occupation of private land.
The accused, Antonina Bwayo Nakibuuka and Nkali Kirumira Esau, appeared in court on Friday evening after a joint operation led by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, in coordination with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
Prosecution alleges that in June 2025, at Nalugala–Kitala in Wakiso District, Nakibuuka fraudulently sold a piece of land to Nkali Esau without possessing legal authority or letters of administration for the estate. The land in question legally belongs to the estate of the late George William Kyobe.
Despite knowing the land was not hers to sell, Nakibuuka allegedly facilitated the transaction, enabling Esau to forcefully and unlawfully occupy the land. His occupation was reportedly done with full awareness that the property was part of a deceased person’s estate.
The case has stirred concern among land rights advocates and residents of Wakiso District, a region that has increasingly become a hotspot for fraudulent land transactions.
Both accused persons have been remanded to prison until August 23, 2025, as investigations continue.
Authorities have urged members of the public to verify the legitimacy of all land transactions and report suspicious activities to relevant agencies.
This case is part of a broader effort by government units to combat land fraud and protect rightful property ownership, especially where vulnerable estates of the deceased are targeted.
