The Office of the National Chairman (ONC) has continued its Ramadan outreach programme to institutions of higher learning, with Muslim students at Makerere University benefiting from the latest engagement aimed at promoting faith, discipline and community support during the holy month.
The outreach, Tuesday, led by Hajjat Hadija Namyalo, Head of the Office of the National Chairman, has been held at the university’s main mosque where she was warmly received by the Chairman of the Makerere University Muslim Students Association (MUMSA), Kayiwa Shuraihu Musa, together with the University Imam Dr. Sowedi Mayanja and Deputy University Imam Muhammed Musungule.
Addressing the believers, Hajjat Namyalo commended the Muslim community at Makerere for maintaining discipline and stability within the university environment, urging the students to remain calm, patient and focused on both their academic and spiritual growth as they prepare for their future.
She also emphasized the importance of moral responsibility among young people, encouraging students to abstain from sexual relations until marriage and reminding them that HIV/AIDS remains a real public health challenge that requires awareness and responsible choices.
Hajjat Namyalo further called upon the Muslim student leadership to revive Quran competitions within the university, noting that such initiatives would strengthen faith, unity and religious values among students. She pledged that the Office of the National Chairman would support the initiative to ensure the competitions are successfully revived and sustained.
During the engagement, the leadership of the University Muslim Students Association (MUMSA) also expressed gratitude for the support extended by the Office of the National Chairman towards the Muslim students’ welfare during Ramadan.
According to Chairman Kayiwa Shuraihu Musa, the association received 200 boxes of support towards the MUMSA Iftar and Sahoor programme which will help facilitate meals for students observing the fast.
“On behalf of MUMSA, I would like to extend our sincere gratitude for your generous contribution of two hundred boxes towards the MUMSA Iftar and Sahoor Programme. Your timely support greatly contributed to the success of this noble initiative,” Kayiwa said.
He noted that the support enabled many Muslim students to break their fast and observe Sahoor with dignity, describing the gesture as a reflection of compassion, leadership and commitment to community welfare.
“We deeply appreciate your continued support and partnership in serving the Muslim community. May Allah reward you abundantly for your charity and grant you continued strength and success in your work,” he added.
The engagement forms part of ONC’s broader Ramadan outreach programme aimed at supporting Muslim communities across institutions while encouraging young people to remain grounded in faith, discipline and positive values during the holy month.
