About a week ago, social media was flooded by a video clip of a grass-thatched school allegedly located in Hoima District.
The Office of the National Chairman (ONC) Kyambogo picked interest after the majority of bazzukulu pointed fingers at HE Yoweri Museveni’s government blaming it for allowing such a school to operate.
ONC instructed its Bunyoro Subregion Coordinator to fact-find about the alleged school and indeed, swiftly the Coordinator Mr Tunura Brian took action.
“I engaged the RDC on Monday and a team was dispatched to follow up on the matter,” said Mr Tunura adding, “I later went to Kyamukwenda Village to physically witness the said school. I wish to inform you that it was immediately closed by the RDC, Mr Rodger Mbabazi.”
According to Mr Tunura, the school was operating illegally and the District Education Officer (DEO) was not aware of the establishment claiming to be a school. ”The local people in the Kyamukwenda village were also shocked to learn that there existed a likelihood of a school in their village when a certain muzungu visited it,” says Tunura.
About 500 metres away from the controversial Christ the King establishment, there is Kijonjomi Primary School which is government-funded. Mr. Tunura advised the parents to be vigilant with such establishments in their villages as they might turn into rebel centres over time.
Before shutting this school, the individuals that claimed its management were advised to follow the law and register a proper school as per the guidelines of the Ministry of Education and Sport if they wished to contribute towards the socio-economic transformation of the people of Hoima through education.
