Police in Luwero District have recovered 68 head of stolen cattle and arrested three suspects following an intelligence-led operation in Kigumbya Village, Kamira Sub-County.
According to Savannah Region Police Spokesperson Sam Twiineamazima, the successful operation was carried out in the early hours of March 31, 2026, after authorities received credible information about a group attempting to sell stolen livestock.
“A police team was swiftly deployed to the area upon receiving intelligence that suspects were in the process of transferring the animals to a potential buyer,” Twiineamazima said.
At approximately 1:00 a.m., officers intercepted the suspects in Kigumbya Village and arrested them on the spot while they were in possession of the cattle.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the animals had been stolen from a nearby farm. The farm manager later identified one of the suspects, Kayima Fred, as an employee who had participated in the theft.
The other suspects were identified as Kasenge Muzafaru, a 25-year-old boda boda rider, and Ssemwanga Henry, aged 24. All three are residents of Kabunyata Zone in Kamira Town Council.
Police believe the suspects are part of a wider criminal network involved in cattle theft in Kamira and surrounding areas.
All 68 head of cattle were successfully recovered and are being held as exhibits. Authorities confirmed that a case has been registered, statements recorded, and the suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
Twiineamazima added that intelligence-led operations are ongoing to track down additional individuals connected to the crime.
Further inquiries into the matter are still underway.
