Residents of Kibaati Cell in Mubende Municipality were left stunned today after an unusual and almost cinematic incident unfolded. A swarm of bees descended and took over a parked motorcycle, drawing a crowd of curious onlookers.
The motorcycle, registration number UMA 230GB, a Bajaj Boxer, belongs to William Tushabe, a well-known bodaboda rider who operates at the Mubende Regional Referral Hospital stage.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident began innocently. Tushabe had briefly stepped away from his motorcycle to make a purchase at a nearby shop. Moments later, he returned to find bees hovering around the bike.
“At first, they just circled it,” one witness recounted. “Then within minutes, they had completely covered the motorcycle.”
The bizarre scene quickly attracted traders, riders, and passersby, many trying to make sense of what they were witnessing. With no visible beehives in the area, speculation spread rapidly.
Some residents attributed the incident to cultural or spiritual causes, while others suspected the rider might have unknowingly transported something that attracted the insects.
“It is not something you see in town,” another local remarked. “We do not even have beehives here, so where did they come from?”
As confusion grew, a group of Born Again fellowship members stepped in, turning the moment into a spiritual intervention. Gathering near the motorcycle, they prayed aloud, asking for the bees to disperse.
“In the name of the Almighty, we command these bees to leave,” one member declared.
Despite the prayers, the situation took another surprising turn. When Tushabe eventually attempted to leave, the bees reportedly followed him, trailing the motorcycle as a crowd watched in disbelief. Some people even chanted as he rode off.
Concerned for his safety and wary of growing suspicion among residents, Tushabe headed to Mubende Central Police Station, where he sought refuge and began recording a statement.
Lawrence Akansimira, Chairperson of the Kaweeri Bodaboda Stage, confirmed the incident and expressed shock.
“We were all surprised,” he said. “Tushabe is a Born Again Christian and a respected rider. People are trying to guess what might have caused this, but honestly, we do not know.”
Akansimira also addressed rumors that began circulating in the crowd, dismissing claims that the motorcycle might have been stolen.
“He has owned this motorcycle for a long time,” he explained. “He even upgraded from an older one. There is nothing suspicious about his ownership.”
He added that taking the motorcycle to the police station was a precautionary move.
“In situations like this, people can jump to conclusions. Some might even think he is a thief and take drastic action. It is safer for him to be at the station as things are clarified.”
As the dust settles, the incident remains unexplained, leaving behind a mix of awe, curiosity, and lingering questions in the heart of Mubende.
