On Tuesday, March 25, 2025, President Yoweri Museveni and First Lady Maama Janet Kataha Museveni hosted Muslim leaders and the faithful for an Iftar dinner at State House, Entebbe. The event, held during the sacred last ten days of Ramadan, underscored themes of unity, economic empowerment, and national development.

During the dinner, President Museveni commended the Muslim community for actively participating in government programs such as the Parish Development Model (PDM). He stressed that while prayer is essential, economic engagement is key to overcoming poverty. “Prayer alone will not lift people out of poverty. Engaging in income-generating activities is key to economic liberation,” he stated, encouraging continued involvement in wealth creation initiatives.

Addressing concerns over interest rates in government programs, the President reassured the gathering that necessary adjustments were underway to resolve these challenges.

Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Recognized For Excellence

A key highlight of the evening was the recognition of outstanding Muslims who have significantly contributed to national development. Among those honored was Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, the Senior Presidential Advisor and Manager of the Office of the National Chairman (ONC). She received an Excellent Service Award for her unwavering leadership and commitment to national progress.

Upon receiving her award, Hajjat Namyalo expressed deep gratitude and reaffirmed her dedication to serving Ugandans. “Despite challenges, we remain steadfast in supporting the President’s vision for transformation,” she stated. She also used the occasion to rally support for President Museveni ahead of the 2026 elections, emphasizing the need for continued development under his leadership.

Other award recipients included Dr. Yahya Ssemuddu and Sheikh Erias Kigozi, who were recognized for their remarkable societal contributions.

Muslim Leaders Urged To Champion Economic Progress

Speaking on behalf of the Mufti of Uganda, Deputy Mufti Sheikh Ali Waiswa called on Muslim leaders to integrate economic empowerment into their teachings. He highlighted the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council’s poverty eradication programs, which align with government initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods.

Sheikh Waiswa also urged the Muslim community to use the holy month for reconciliation, forgiveness, and renewed commitment to national progress. “This is a period to strengthen our bonds and work together for the prosperity of our nation,” he emphasized.

A Night Of Unity & Reflection

The State House Iftar served as a platform for reinforcing national unity and the importance of economic empowerment. It was attended by high-profile figures, including Vice President Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo, Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Executive Director Sharifah Buzeki, government ministers, permanent secretaries, regional and district Kadhis from across Uganda, and prominent business figures such as Hajji Yasin of Success Motors.

Eid ul-Fitr is expected to be observed on either Sunday, March 30, 2025, or Monday, March 31, 2025, depending on the sighting of the moon.

Hajjat Namyalo’s recognition at this prestigious gathering further highlights her dedication to national service and development. Her leadership continues to inspire many within and beyond the Muslim community, reaffirming the crucial role of economic empowerment in shaping Uganda’s future.
