Secrets! Here Is Why Gen Kayihura Was Acquitted By Court Martial

By Our Reporter

The military court today dropped charges against the former Inspector General of Police, Gen. Kale Kayihura. The development comes just one day to the General’s retirement from Uganda People’s Defence Forces.

Kayihura’s acquittal was announced on Wednesday, August 30, by the military court martial located in Makindye, a suburb of the Ugandan capital Kampala.

Just months after he was dropped as police boss in 2018, Kayihura was arrested and charged with a litany of charges including failure to protect materials, failure to supervise police officers, among other charges.

He was kept on remand until the same court granted him bail in 2020.

The decision to drop charges against Kayihura comes just a month after President Museveni decided to retire him from military service, which will bring to an end his military career of 40 years.

Meanwhile, reasons why Court acquitted Kayihura remain unclear but sources say the President wanted to give him a peaceful retirement as the only way to thank him for the good services he has offered to his nation.
