Former Miss Rwanda 2016 Jolly Mutesi has threatened legal action against Ugandan musician Bebe Cool after the singer publicly accused her of involvement in an alleged online scam and released screenshots of conversations he claims are linked to her.
The dispute escalated on Wednesday when Bebe Cool, whose real name is Moses Ssali, published a series of WhatsApp screenshots and renewed allegations that Mutesi and an unnamed associate had been targeting victims through social media and messaging platforms.
According to the singer, he communicated with an individual using Mutesi’s identity who discussed investment opportunities, claimed access to influential international networks, and offered to help advance his son’s football career abroad.
In one of the conversations shared online, the individual allegedly told Bebe Cool: “Bebe also I saw your son is a footballer. I can play some magic in the summer.”
Other messages contained discussions about potential business partnerships in Uganda, meetings with Saudi royals, and investment projects involving Uganda, Rwanda and the United Kingdom. The chats also showed the individual expressing interest in working with Bebe Cool because of his influence and connections.
However, the screenshots do not independently verify the identity of the person behind the account, which was saved as “Jolly UK Arsenal Stadium.”
Legal Notice
Hours after the screenshots were published, Mutesi’s lawyers at Mbidde & Co. Advocates issued a formal notice threatening legal proceedings against the singer.
In the notice, titled “Notice of Imminent Legal Proceedings for Defamation, Injurious Falsehood, and Aggravated Publication of False Statements,” the lawyers accused Bebe Cool of publishing false and defamatory allegations that had seriously damaged their client’s reputation.
The notice states that on June 16, 2026, Bebe Cool used his verified X account to publish statements alleging that Mutesi had been involved in fraudulent activities against him.
“The said publication constitutes grossly defamatory material, which is false per se, actuated by express malice, and published in a manner that was reckless, wanton, and in flagrant disregard of the truth or any duty to verify the same,” the lawyers wrote.
Led by prominent lawyer Fred Mukasa Mbidde, the legal team maintained that Mutesi has never communicated with Bebe Cool and has no connection whatsoever to the UK telephone number he publicly attributed to her.
“For the avoidance of doubt, our client has never at any material time engaged in any dealings, correspondence, or nexus whatsoever with you,” the notice states, adding that the phone number in question is “fraudulent, unauthorized, and bears no nexus whatsoever to her identity.”
Identity Theft
Mutesi’s lawyers argued that the number had already been publicly identified as being used by fraudsters impersonating individuals online.
According to the notice, a social media user identified as Tumwine Daniel publicly warned about the number on October 4, 2024. The legal team also noted that Mutesi had separately issued a public advisory cautioning followers about imposters using her name and photographs to deceive members of the public.
The lawyers contend that these warnings demonstrate that Mutesi herself was a victim of identity theft rather than a participant in any fraudulent scheme.
As part of their demands, the lawyers instructed Bebe Cool to immediately cease publishing the allegations, issue a full and unqualified public retraction, publish a written apology approved by Mutesi’s legal team, and disclose the sources of information on which he based his claims.
The notice gives the singer 48 hours to comply and warns that failure to do so will result in immediate legal action. It further states that the allegations could expose him to additional liability under laws governing cyber harassment, misuse of electronic communications and reputational harm.
