The Office of the National Chairperson (ONC) has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the successful implementation of the Parish Development Model (PDM) following a monitoring visit that showcased how government funding is transforming livelihoods in Buikwe District.
The ONC Coordinator for Greater Mukono, JB Wamala, on Sunday conducted a field monitoring and evaluation exercise in Ngogwe Sub-county, where he assessed the progress of PDM implementation and engaged local leaders on strengthening community mobilization and accountability.
Wamala was received by the Ngogwe Town Clerk, Mr. Kalyowa Rajab, before paying a courtesy call on the LCIII Chairperson-elect, Mr. Engesa Fred (NRM). The leaders discussed strategies for enhancing community participation, improving implementation of the Parish Development Model, and ensuring proper utilization of government funds.
The monitoring exercise later took the team to Ngogwe Village, where they visited Mrs. Nakimuli Grace, a 39-year-old PDM beneficiary whose success story has become a testament to the programme’s impact.
Nakimuli invested her PDM funds in piggery farming, an enterprise that has since transformed her family’s economic fortunes. After successfully selling two batches of piglets, she generated enough income to establish a retail shop, creating an additional source of household income and improving her family’s financial stability.
Her venture has not only increased household earnings but has also strengthened food security and demonstrated how productive investment can create sustainable livelihoods in rural communities.
Speaking during the visit, local leaders praised the Parish Development Model for empowering households to transition from subsistence farming to commercial production, saying the programme is restoring hope among communities through wealth creation and entrepreneurship.
The monitoring exercise forms part of ONC’s nationwide campaign to assess the effectiveness of the Parish Development Model and ensure beneficiaries are utilizing government funds for their intended purpose.
Officials say regular field visits are helping identify success stories, strengthen accountability, and provide guidance to beneficiaries to maximize the programme’s impact.
According to ONC, continued monitoring will ensure the Parish Development Model remains on course to deliver the government’s broader objectives of inclusive wealth creation, job creation, improved household incomes, and the eradication of poverty across Uganda.
