Breaking! 14 Killed In Horrific Accident Along Kampala-Masaka Highway

At least 14 people have been killed in a fatal road crash involving a taxi and a sand truck in Lwera Swamp, Kalungu District.
The crash occurred at about 11:00pm on Monday, August 3, 2026, at Kamunga Trading Centre along the Kampala–Masaka Highway, according to police.
The accident involved a Toyota Hiace taxi registration number UA 662AQ and a Sino truck, registration number UBS 040F, which was transporting sand.
Police said all the 14 victims died at the scene, with all the fatalities being occupants of the taxi.
Four other people survived the crash with injuries and were rushed to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital for treatment. Two of the injured victims were occupants of the taxi, while the other two were travelling in the truck.
Police visited the scene and commenced investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the deadly collision.
The driver of the truck is reported to have fled the scene following the crash, prompting police to launch efforts to trace and apprehend him.
The latest incident adds to growing concerns over road safety along the Kampala–Masaka Highway, particularly in the Lwera section, which regularly handles heavy traffic and commercial vehicles.
Police have urged motorists to exercise maximum caution, especially when driving at night, as investigations into the cause of the crash continue.
