Swift Tech: Hackers Take Over NBS, Next Radio & AfroMobile Social Media Accounts

Next Media has confirmed a security breach involving the social media accounts of its major brands, with hackers gaining unauthorised access to accounts belonging to NBS Television, Next Radio and AfroMobile.
The media company disclosed the breach in a security notice issued on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, saying the unauthorised access occurred within the preceding 12 hours.
According to Next Media, it has managed to regain control of the AfroMobile account and removed posts published by the attackers.
However, the situation remained unresolved on the NBS Television and Next Radio accounts at the time of the statement, with the company warning followers that content posted through the compromised accounts should not be attributed to Next Media.
“Posts made on these accounts during this period do not represent Next Media,” the company said.
NBS Account Altered
The breach became noticeable after unusual activity was observed on the NBS Television X account, which has more than two million followers.
The account’s profile information appeared to have been altered, raising concerns among followers before Next Media confirmed that its social media platforms had been compromised.
The company has advised members of the public to disregard suspicious posts, messages or requests originating from the affected accounts.
It has also warned users against sharing personal information with anyone communicating through the compromised handles.
Next Media said efforts to recover full control of the affected platforms were ongoing.
The company has already secured the AfroMobile account and removed the unauthorised content, while work continues to regain access to NBS Television and Next Radio.
The incident affects some of Uganda’s prominent media and digital platforms and comes as social media accounts increasingly serve as major channels for news, public communication and engagement.
Next Media has promised to provide further updates as the recovery process progresses.
Until control of the affected accounts is fully restored, the company has urged the public to rely on official communications and treat any unusual posts or requests from the compromised accounts with caution.
