Police are actively pursuing a group of thugs who violently robbed a Chinese national, Lee Shao, of Shs200 million in the heart of Kampala city. The incident occurred four days ago on Martin Road.

According to preliminary investigations conducted by the Police Crime Intelligence (CI), Lee Shao, who was carrying a substantial amount of money, was ambushed by a gang of thieves riding on four motorcycles.

The thugs forcibly stole Lee Shao’s bag, containing the money. Lee Shao resorted to firing his weapon in an attempt to thwart the robbery.

“I had Shs200 million shillings in my bag, and I was using a boda boda when a group of men attacked me and took my money. I was confused and I remembered to shoot them when they had fled the scene,” reported Lee Shao to the police detectives.

Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, said that the authorities are actively investigating the robbery case.

“We have seized the gun and recorded his statement. The crime intelligence team is relentlessly searching for the robbers. However, we want to use this incident as a warning against carrying such a substantial amount of money without adequate security,” said Owoyesigyire.

Furthermore, efforts are underway to identify and locate the motorcycles used by the thugs during the robbery.
