The body of the late Tooro King, Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, has arrived at Entebbe International Airport, marking the beginning of his final journey home to Tooro Kingdom.
The remains were received at the airport by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, top Tooro Kingdom officials, members of the Royal Family, friends and other dignitaries who gathered to pay their final respects to the 34-year-old monarch.
King Oyo died in the United States on August 27, 2026, after a battle with cancer, bringing to an end a historic reign that began when he was only three years old.
Following the airport ceremony, the body is expected to be flown to Humura Playground in Kyegegwa District, from where it will be placed on an open carrier for a procession by road to Karuziika Palace in Fort Portal City.
The procession is expected to give thousands of Tooro subjects an opportunity to line the route and pay their final respects.
Upon arrival at the palace, the official nine-day mourning period will commence, culminating in the burial of King Oyo at the Karambi Royal Tombs on September 12, 2026, the date that would have marked his 31st coronation anniversary.
