Kampala Floods Back In Action: Entebbe Road Cut Off As Cars, Motorbikes Get Trapped In Deep Water

    By Swift Reporter

Heavy rains pounded parts of Kampala, Wakiso and Mukono on Thursday, September 17, 2026, triggering flooding that disrupted traffic, stranded motorists and pedestrians and affected businesses along several major routes.

One of the worst-affected areas was the Entebbe Road corridor, where floodwater accumulated around Zana near Lubowa, leaving sections of the highway difficult to navigate.

Several vehicles were stuck in deep water as commuters struggled to move through the affected sections. Motorcyclists were also seen riding cautiously through the flooded road, while pedestrians sought safer routes to avoid the rising water.

The flooding was also reported along the Bata Bata–Nabingola/Nalumunye Mayanja stretch, where an emergency traffic alert warned motorists against attempting to cross sections covered by deep and fast-moving water.

The situation caused significant delays for travellers moving between Kampala and Entebbe, with some motorists forced to stop and wait for water levels to reduce.

Videos circulating on social media showed the extent of the flooding, including motorcyclists splashing through waterlogged roads, traders attempting to protect their merchandise in submerged market areas and crowds watching as vehicles navigated through flooded sections.

Beyond Entebbe Road, the heavy downpour affected traffic and commercial activity in other parts of Kampala, Wakiso and Mukono.

Residents in the affected areas have renewed calls for improved drainage systems, saying flooding has become a recurring challenge whenever heavy rains hit the region.

Some residents and local observers have attributed the flooding to blocked drainage channels, inadequate storm-water infrastructure and ongoing construction works that can interfere with the movement of rainwater.

The Thursday flooding comes during a period of seasonal rains, highlighting the continued challenge of managing storm water in rapidly developing urban and peri-urban areas around Kampala.

Motorists have been urged to exercise caution, avoid attempting to cross roads covered by deep or fast-moving water and use alternative routes where possible.

Authorities and road users are expected to continue monitoring the affected areas as the rains persist.
