Museveni’s Secret Weapon? Prosper Tuhaire’s Magnetic Leadership Attracts Hundreds Back To NRM, His Office Turns Into Powerhouse Of Unity!

By Frank Kamuntu

In a political season where tensions often run high, the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has experienced an unexpected wave of calm, unity, and renewed enthusiasm in Mbarara District—thanks to the transformative leadership of Prosper Tuhaire Kururagire, the newly elected Mbarara District NRM Chairman.

As joint NRM primary campaigns continue to unfold across the country, Mbarara stands out as a model of order and discipline. Not a single chaotic incident has been reported during the highly anticipated primaries—a direct result, many say, of Tuhaire’s strategic coordination, inclusive leadership, and unwavering commitment to party unity.

The Man Behind The Calm

Prosper Tuhaire, a respected businessman and famous tycoon, has not only brought stability to a politically volatile region but has physically invested in the party’s growth—constructing a fully-fledged NRM office in Mbarara out of his own pocket. This facility has quickly evolved into a political hub, attracting hundreds of grassroots supporters, leaders, and returning members who had previously turned their backs on the party due to what they termed “past leadership inefficiencies.”

“It is no longer just an office,” said one NRM mobiliser. “It’s a home. From morning to evening, supporters flood in, discussing the future of the party directly with Prosper himself, he is there for all NRM supporters, he gives us time and he spends much of his time with us all aiming to find away we can boost growth and strength of our party, so, for us he is a real leader and people’s chairman.”

Return Of The Lost Cadres

Among the most notable returnees is Dr. Mwebembezi Abel, a former NRM flag bearer for Kashari South in the 2021 general elections. After losing the parliamentary seat to independent candidate Nathan Itungo, Mwebembezi distanced himself from NRM, accusing its leadership of abandonment.

But with Prosper now at the helm, Mwebembezi has made a dramatic comeback from the United States—and insiders reveal he’s currently among the strongest contenders in the ongoing NRM primaries. His return is symbolic of a wider wave of reconciliation and trust being restored within the party’s local structures.

“These people are returning not just because of politics, but because of the harmony and unity that Prosper’s leadership has introduced. They believe again,” said a source close to the district leadership.

A Chairman Close To The First Family

Prosper’s influence goes beyond Mbarara. His strong ties with Uganda’s First Family—including President Yoweri Museveni, Gen. Salim Saleh, and Sedrack Kaguta Nzeire—are no secret. Infact, it was Nzeire, the President’s own brother and now aspiring NRM CEC Western Region representative, who officially commissioned the Mbarara NRM office—cementing Prosper’s role as a central figure in the western Uganda political machinery.

This alignment with national power centers has already begun to bear fruit. Reports indicate that support for President Museveni in western Uganda has been significantly boosted ever since Prosper assumed leadership.

The Bigger Picture: 2026 In Sight

While the nation prepares for the 2026 general elections, sources close to the Mbarara NRM leadership say Prosper Tuhaire is drawing up an aggressive mobilization strategy aimed at securing nothing less than 99% of the western vote for President Museveni. Early signs are promising—and in our next edition, we’ll bring you an exclusive look into Prosper’s game-changing blueprint for NRM’s 2026 campaign dominance.

For now, Mbarara’s peaceful and energized primaries stand as a shining example of what visionary leadership can achieve—and Prosper Tuhaire is being hailed as the man who gave the party a second wind.
