Big Move! Senior Journalist Apollo Tusiime Appointed Programs Director At Salt Media

By Frank Kamuntu

Lungujja, Lubaga– Salt Media has appointed Apollo Tusiime, a seasoned multimedia journalist, as the new Programs Director (PD), a move that highlights his extensive experience in the media industry. The appointment was confirmed by Pr. Aloysius Bujjingo during a special event at Salt Media’s offices in Lungujja, Lubaga, where staff also welcomed Pr. Bugembe for a courtesy visit where he unveiled plans for his mega gospel concert.

Known to many in the media industry as Prince Apollo, Tusiime brings 13 years of rich experience, spanning radio, television, and print. His journey in journalism began in 2012 when he hosted a political talk show on Alpha FM, a sister station of Impact FM, which is owned by Dr. Joseph Sserwada. His passion for political discourse continued as he pioneered the talk show Akiika Embuga on Dream TV in 2014, marking the start of his multifaceted career.

Apollo’s career trajectory saw him joining Impact Media, where he hosted several popular programs such as Ekyooto ky’abataka and Gyagenda ku Agenda, a Friday morning show he co-hosted with prominent political commentator Tamale Mirundi. His seven years at Impact Media were also marked by his leadership within the Uganda Parliamentary Press Association (UPPA), where he held the positions of Treasurer, Deputy Secretary General, and eventually Secretary General—roles he relinquished just last year before joining Salt Media.

Having worked at Salt Media for the past five years, Apollo has now taken on the significant responsibility of Programs Director, a position that recognizes his years of experience and ability to manage media content at a strategic level.

“A Timely & Deserving Promotion”

In an exclusive interview with Swift Daily News, Apollo expressed his gratitude for the appointment, which he believes is timely given his long career in media. “I am sure my promotion is timely, considering the time I have spent behind the microphone and in front of cameras,” he said. “I thank the administration at Salt Media and particularly Pr. Aloysius Bujjingo, the Managing Director, for having confidence in me to contribute to the growth of this esteemed institution.”

Having dedicated over a decade to media practice, Apollo is confident that his vast experience—whether in the studio, reporting from Parliamentary Committees, or conducting interviews on the field—has equipped him to take on the challenges and responsibilities that come with his new role. “The time is now,” he remarked, reflecting on how his career journey has led him to this milestone.

Addressing Media Challenges

Despite his excitement for the new role, Apollo voiced concerns about the current challenges faced by the media industry, particularly in Uganda. He highlighted the shrinking space for free press, the increasing intrusion of unqualified media practitioners, and the rise of citizen journalism in the digital era, which has often led to the spread of fake news.

“The media environment is changing rapidly, and it’s not always for the better,” he stated. “We are witnessing a decline in press freedom, as well as the entry of individuals who may not have the professional qualifications needed to navigate the complex media landscape. Moreover, social media and digital platforms have brought about a new wave of citizen journalism that often lacks editorial oversight, leading to the spread of misinformation.”

He further emphasized that media practitioners and managers must find a balance between navigating these challenges while maintaining the cardinal role of informing, educating, and entertaining the public in a professional manner. “We must find ways to remain credible and responsible,” he urged, “and this is something I intend to work on at Salt Media.”

As the new Programs Director, Apollo is poised to bring fresh insights and leadership to Salt Media’s content creation and programming strategies. With his diverse background, deep industry knowledge, and passion for quality journalism, he is set to play a crucial role in shaping the future of media at Salt Media.

This appointment marks a significant milestone in Apollo Tusiime’s career and offers new hope for Salt Media as it continues to innovate and adapt to the changing media landscape. At Swift News, we congratulate you Apollo!
