With the 2026 general elections drawing near, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) has begun sharpening its political claws—and leading the charge in western Uganda is none other than Prosper Tuhaire Kururagire, the newly elected Mbarara District NRM Chairman.
More than just a district leader, Kururagire is now being hailed as President Museveni’s trusted mobilization general in the west, as he sets into motion a full-scale grassroots campaign to secure a commanding victory for the Head of State come 2026 elections.
The Mobilization Engine Starts In Mbarara
In a region historically seen as an NRM stronghold but lately rattled by internal disunity and voter apathy, Kururagire has breathed new life into the ruling party’s operations. His first major achievement? Restoring order and confidence during the NRM primaries in Mbarara—a process that unfolded peacefully and without the usual drama, thanks to his meticulous coordination and people-first leadership style.
But sources close to the district leadership reveal that this is just the beginning. “Prosper’s assignment is bigger than chairing a district,” one insider said. “He’s laying the foundation to secure over 90% of western votes for the President. That’s the target.”
From the outside, the newly constructed NRM office in Mbarara may look like just another building. But within its walls lies the nerve center of Museveni’s western Uganda mobilization campaign.
Fully funded by Kururagire himself, the facility has become a hive of activity, drawing hundreds of supporters, opinion leaders, and once-estranged cadres back into the fold. “It’s not just an office—it’s our command center,” said a local mobilizer. “People are coming back because Prosper listens, acts, and delivers. He’s our bridge to the top.”
Kururagire’s mission isn’t just district-level. His deep ties to Uganda’s First Family—particularly President Museveni’s brother, Sedrack Kaguta Nzeire—give his mobilization drive both credibility and strategic reach. In fact, it was Nzeire himself who commissioned the new NRM offices in Mbarara, a move seen by many as a powerful endorsement of Kururagire’s role in the President’s re-election machinery.
“Kururagire is not just coordinating support—he is engineering a movement,” one senior party official commented.
All Roads Lead To 2026
While most party leaders are still focused on recently concluded internal primaries, Kururagire is already looking ahead. His team is finalizing a massive, district-by-district mobilization strategy designed to secure near-total support for Museveni in Ankole and beyond. The goal? Deliver a voter turnout and loyalty margin so wide, it sets the tone for national victory.
From Mbarara to the mountain slopes of Kigezi, Prosper Tuhaire Kururagire is quietly—but powerfully—stoking the engine of NRM’s western dominance. As the countdown to 2026 continues, all eyes are now on him—not just as a district chairman, but as the man powering Museveni’s re-election machine in Uganda’s political heartland.
