A 41-year-old man was arrested on Sunday for allegedly assaulting his 19-year-old son to death after the young man failed to pass police recruitment tests.
Gibson Munyoro, a security guard, reportedly sent his son, Ngonidzashe Munyoro, to Mkushi Academy on July 29 for police interviews. Ngonidzashe was returned home on August 2 after being deemed unfit for police duties.
According to reports, Munyoro questioned his son about the failed recruitment attempt and was reportedly dissatisfied with his explanation. He allegedly tied Ngonidzashe’s hands and legs, placed an iron bar between them, and assaulted him with a baton. The young man reportedly cried for help during the assault, but his father allegedly warned anyone against intervening.
The brutal attack only ended when Ngonidzashe’s mother, Ms. Ruvimbo Masunga, arrived home and intervened. She restrained Munyoro and sought help from neighbors to stop the assault.
Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the case, stating:
“Police are investigating a murder case involving a teenager and his biological father. Full details will be released in due course.”
Munyoro has since been taken into police custody as investigations continue.
The case has shocked the local community, highlighting concerns over domestic violence and the extreme consequences of familial abuse.
