The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party leadership today convened a high-level meeting with district chairpersons from across the country to deliberate on the forthcoming National Delegates Conference and to strategize for its successful execution.

The preparatory session, chaired by Secretary General Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, brought together committee heads including SPA Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, Ms. Barbara Nekesa, Dr. Tanga Odoi, and Emmanuel Dombo, who briefed the district leaders on guidelines and priorities ahead of the conference. The activities officially commence tomorrow with a meeting of the Central Executive Committee (CEC).

At the same gathering, top NRM officials led by the First National Vice Chairperson, Al Hajji Moses Kigongo, Secretary General Todwong, and First National Vice Chairperson (Female) Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, unveiled the official campaign portrait of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, which will be used during the 2026 elections and subsequent campaigns.

The poster bears the 2026 campaign slogan: “Protecting the Gains as We Make a Qualitative Leap into High Middle-Income Status.”

This development follows a resolution by the CEC in 2016 at Chobe Resort, which declared President Museveni the sole presidential flagbearer of the party. Although the NRM Electoral Commission, under Dr. Tanga Odoi, provided room for other interested candidates, no contender fulfilled the necessary requirements, thus reaffirming Museveni’s candidature.

Speaking at the event held at the NRM Secretariat, Office of the National Chairman (ONC), Kyambogo, Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo praised the “bazzukulu” (youth supporters) for mounting consistent pressure that persuaded President Museveni to accept another term.

“We began the campaign demanding that President Museveni should not step down until he fulfils his promises. After months of pressure, he accepted, and today we are here to launch his official poster and campaign slogan. This is a clear sign that he listened to our call. Personally, I feel my prayer has been answered,” Namyalo said.

She further urged Ugandans to “stop wasting time on the opposition,” arguing that Museveni’s broad support already secures him a strong position ahead of 2026. According to party officials, the President’s long-term vision is to grow Uganda’s GDP to USD 500 billion by 2040, elevating the country into the ranks of the so-called Tiger Economies.

Meanwhile, Al Hajji Moses Kigongo cautioned party members against politics of religion and sectarianism, calling instead for unity rooted in national principles. He urged NRM cadres to maintain civility during campaigns, reminding them that “everything we do reflects on the image of the party.”

However, district leaders present also raised logistical concerns, particularly the lack of transport to reach voters effectively. They appealed to the party leadership to provide vehicles to facilitate mobilization during the campaign period in support of Museveni’s candidature.
