The Uganda Police Force has dismissed claims circulating on social media that officers at Kajjansi Police Station mishandled a rape case and unlawfully seized property from a suspect’s home.
According to police, the case was first reported on August 23, 2025, at around 11pm by a 22-year-old hairdresser and resident of Zana, Makindye Municipality, Wakiso District. The complainant alleged that she met Ngobi Simon in July at Karting, Lubowa, and later kept in touch with him. On the night of August 23, she reportedly met him again, and after consuming an alcoholic drink, she was allegedly taken to Canaan Estate, Akright, Kajjansi, where she was raped by Simon and another man only identified as “Chairman.”
Police say a team of detectives, scene-of-crime officers and uniformed personnel promptly visited the scene. They recovered beddings, HIV testing kits and other exhibits, while the victim was medically examined and placed under specialized care. A Subaru vehicle, registration number UBP 276F, allegedly used to transport her, was also impounded at Kajjansi Police Station to aid investigations. Witness statements were obtained, including accounts from private security guards at the estate.
Preliminary findings suggest the victim managed to lock herself in a room after the assault, forcing the suspects to flee.
On allegations that officers unlawfully raided a suspect’s home and extorted property, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy PRO for Kampala Metropolitan Police, dismissed the claims as “false and misleading.”
“The recovery of property was conducted strictly as part of the investigative process, in line with established procedures for preserving exhibits in sexual offence cases. No unlawful raid or extortion was carried out,” Owoyesigyire clarified.
He stressed that the Police leadership remains committed to accountability, warning that any officer found guilty of misconduct would face disciplinary action.
The suspects, Ngobi Simon and his alleged accomplice “Chairman,” remain at large. Police have urged them to report to Kajjansi Police Station and record statements.
“We condemn all acts of sexual violence in the strongest terms,” Owoyesigyire said. “At the same time, we reaffirm our commitment to professionalism, accountability and respect for the rights of all parties. Investigations are ongoing, and the public will be kept informed.”
Police have appealed to the public for calm, patience, and responsible communication as investigations continue.
