In a passionate address that has quickly gained momentum across political circles, Mercy Kanyesigye, NRM’s National Female Youth MP candidate for 2026–2031, has called on party leadership to immediately set a date for the suspended NRM Youth League and Youth MP elections.

The elections were halted on August 27 by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni following chaotic scenes at Kololo during the NRM Delegates Conference. While order was swiftly restored and other elections continued, youth delegates were left in limbo, their democratic voice suspended.

In her press statement, Mercy expressed gratitude to the youth delegates who travelled from far and wide, enduring personal and financial sacrifices to participate in the process.

“Your resilience and commitment to the party are commendable,” she said. “But we must also recognize the heavy burden this suspension has placed on our supporters… It is only fair that they are given the opportunity to elect their leaders and secure our party flag bearers.”

Mercy’s statement wasn’t just a reaction, it was a rallying cry. A known grassroots mobilizer and respected youth advocate, she used the moment to call upon the President, the NRM Secretariat, and the Electoral Commission to announce the nearest possible dates for the suspended elections.

Those familiar with Mercy’s leadership style weren’t surprised. Widely seen as one of the most capable and visionary young leaders within the NRM, she has consistently championed inclusion, empowerment, and the political participation of young people across Uganda.

Her campaign slogan, “Purpose. Progress. People,” is more than a tagline, it’s a roadmap for a future where young people are not just passengers but drivers of national transformation.

“She listens, she leads, and she delivers,” said one delegate from Mbarara. “We trust her to represent us with strength, strategy, and compassion.”

As the NRM prepares to conclude its youth elections, all eyes are on the next steps. But among the youth, one thing is certain: they have a candidate who understands their struggles, speaks their language, and is ready to serve with purpose, that’s Mercy Kanyesigye.
