The world of football is in mourning following the death of former Zaire international striker Roger Menama Lukaku, who has passed away at the age of 58.

Lukaku, who was the father of Belgian international footballers Romelu and Jordan Lukaku, reportedly died in his hometown of Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (formerly Zaire), on Sunday.

The tragic news was confirmed by his son, Napoli striker Romelu Lukaku, who shared a deeply emotional tribute on social media early on Monday.

“Thank you for teaching me everything I know. I’m forever grateful and appreciate you. Life will never be the same,” Romelu wrote in a heartbreaking post.

He added, “Protecting and guiding me like no one else could I won’t be the same. The pain and tears are flowing big time. But God will give me the strength to get myself back together. Merci pour tout.”

Roger Lukaku enjoyed a notable career as a professional footballer, primarily in Belgium during the 1990s.

He represented several clubs, including FC Boom, Seraing, Germinal Ekeren, KV Mechelen, and KV Oostende.

He also had a spell in Turkey with Gençlerbirliği. On the international stage, he earned 11 caps for the Zaire national team, participating in the African Cup of Nations tournaments in 1994 and 1996.
