As I pen this opinion, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa is vigorously traversing the country on his campaign trail. Unlike in the past, this time his rallies across most regions — from Lango to West Nile — have been nothing short of massive.

Interestingly, even without the usual lineup of Kampala-based musicians, these rallies have drawn huge crowds entertained by their own local artists. This approach not only promotes local talent but also reinforces the NRM’s deep grassroots connection with ordinary citizens.

It is clearer than ever before that both the West Nile and Northern regions will vote overwhelmingly for President Museveni and the majority of NRM flag bearers in the forthcoming 2026 general elections.

That said, there remains a critical issue that needs addressing — voter apathy. The NRM must work diligently to inspire all eligible Ugandans to turn up and cast their votes if the President is to win with an emphatic margin that reflects his genuine national popularity.

However, we cannot ignore the political scheming unfolding among some opposition actors. Reports indicate that parties like the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) and the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) are quietly aligning with the National Unity Platform (NUP). Their objective is simple but dangerous — to deny President Museveni the 50%+1 threshold, push the election into a rerun, and use the resulting tension to stir chaos in major urban centers.

It is becoming increasingly apparent that Mr. Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, alias Bobi Wine, through his network of NUP cells, is mobilizing supporters to prematurely declare him “victorious” on election day — even before the Independent Electoral Commission announces the official results. This kind of subversive planning threatens the peace and stability Ugandans have worked so hard to preserve.

To my fellow countrymen and women, this would be a dangerous path to take. The peace-loving citizens of Uganda will not tolerate another round of political violence or manipulation. Our youth, who once bore the brunt of street chaos between 2018 and 2021, are wiser now and will not be used as tools of destruction.

Elections will come and go — but Uganda must remain. No life should be lost over politics. Our shared destiny as Ugandans transcends political affiliation, religion, tribe, or gender.

We are each other’s keeper — during and after elections. Let us protect the peace and stability we enjoy today, for ourselves and for the generations to come.

For God and My Country, Uganda.
