The Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda, Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among, on Friday electrified Bugweri District as she mobilized massive crowds in Idudi Town Council to rally renewed support for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.
Addressing thousands of enthusiastic residents, Speaker Among — who also doubles as the NRM’s Second National Vice Chairperson for Female League — urged the people of Bugweri to remain steadfast behind President Museveni’s leadership, citing the government’s enduring commitment to socio-economic transformation.
“Despite the challenges being faced by the NRM government, there are undeniable milestones that have significantly improved livelihoods,” Among emphasized. “Through initiatives like Universal Primary Education (UPE), Universal Secondary Education (USE), road infrastructure development, and the Parish Development Model, many households have been transitioned into the money economy.”
Bugweri District, carved out of Iganga in 2018 following the lobbying efforts of the late Haji Kirunda Kiveijinja and other key leaders, remains one of President Museveni’s strongholds in Busoga sub-region. The district has continued to exhibit unwavering loyalty to the NRM government, a factor Speaker Among said must be consolidated ahead of future elections.
The mobilization event attracted several Members of Parliament and senior NRM officials, including Hon. Ssentaayi Muhammed (Bukoto West), Hon. Racheal Magoola (Woman MP, Bugweri District), and Hon. Daudi Kabanda (Kasambya County), among others.
The presence of the Office of the Senior Presidential Advisor on Political Affairs, led by Hadijah Namyalo, was once again felt at the Bugweri rally — marking its second major appearance after the Mayuge historical rally held a day earlier. The renewed coordination between Parliament’s top leadership and the President’s mobilization team appears to be reawakening grassroots NRM activism across Eastern Uganda.
Speaker Among is expected to continue her mobilization tour across Busoga and Teso sub-regions as part of a broader strategy to reinvigorate party structures and consolidate political support ahead of the 2026 general elections.
