The Manager of the Office of the NRM National Chairman (ONC), Hajat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, has urged Ugandan women to restore discipline, patience, and self-respect within their marriages, warning that moral decay and negligence in homes are driving the rise of irresponsible polygamous unions across society.

Hajat Namyalo made the remarks while addressing hundreds of Muslim faithful during the 2nd Edition of the Polygamy Dialogue, organized by Hajat Shania Kigozi at Hotel Africana in Kampala.

In her impassioned address, Namyalo—popularly known as the Chief Muzzukulu—challenged women to remain steadfast and preserve the values that once bound families together.

“Many women tend to relax on marital values after a few years in marriage. Some stop caring for their homes or their husbands’ happiness, forgetting that men face temptations every day,” Namyalo said, urging wives to rekindle affection, patience, and self-respect within their families—even through romantic effort where appropriate.

She also advised single women not to settle for less by becoming second or third wives out of desperation, but rather to maintain their dignity and wait for the right partner. “Do not compromise your worth. Patience pays,” she emphasized.

Clerics Caution Against Abusing Polygamy

Several Muslim clerics echoed Hajat Namyalo’s message, stressing that polygamy in Islam must never be abused or commercialized.

Sheikh Hussein Ali Bulafu reminded the audience that Islamic polygamy is guided by fairness, justice, and financial ability—not by lust or irresponsibility.
“Polygamy is not mandatory. It’s a conditional practice meant to protect women’s rights, not to give men a license to marry beyond their means,” he clarified.

Sheikh Burhan Muhsin Kiti, a popular cleric known for his humorous Islamic teachings, partly blamed some women for indirectly contributing to marital instability through disrespect, nagging, or neglect. However, he emphasized that no man should enter polygamy without emotional, physical, and financial capacity to support all wives equally.

Minister Namuganza Calls For Dialogue Expansion

Hon. Persis Namuganza, the State Minister for Housing, who officiated as Chief Guest, commended Hajat Shania Kigozi for pioneering the Polygamy Dialogue as a platform for open discussion on contemporary marital challenges in line with religious values.

The minister reiterated that while marriage is ideally a union between one man and one woman, existing polygamous families should be handled with fairness, respect, and harmony to maintain peace within homes.
“Men must be responsible and treat their wives with equal love and dignity. Inequality and jealousy destroy families,” Namuganza noted.

She further encouraged the organizers to extend the dialogue to rural communities—where women face similar challenges—and pledged to facilitate a meeting between the Dialogue team and President Yoweri Museveni to deepen discussions on strengthening family stability across Uganda.
