NOMINATED! Julia Muhumuza Storms Youth MP Race, Vows To Champion Girls’ Education, Fight Unemployment & Empower Youths

    By Frank Kamuntu

The race for the National Female Youth Member of Parliament seat is getting hotter after Julia Muhumuza officially announced her bid moments after being nominated by the Electoral Commission in Kampala.

Speaking to the press at Fairway Hotel in Nakasero, the youthful and passionate candidate outlined her bold vision of “Leaving No Youth Behind”, saying her campaign is about uniting young people and pushing for real change in education, empowerment, skilling, and innovation.

“I have been duly nominated for the position of National Female Youth MP, and my vision is clear, leaving no youth behind,” Julia said. “We have many government programs meant to help us, but many young people are still not in school, not working, and not being trained. That must change.”

Julia said she plans to push for more skilling hubs across the country, arguing that the current two per sub-county are not enough to serve Uganda’s huge youth population. She also called for free education in all government schools, saying that while UPE and USE exist, they have become too commercialized and are failing to support the poor.

“We must bring back free education in its true form,” she said. “No child should drop out of school because of school fees.”

She further pledged to support young entrepreneurs by advocating for the quick passing of the Startup Bill, which she said would help new youth-led businesses survive beyond their first year.

“Many startups by young people fail because of high taxes and lack of support,” she said. “If we can help them grow, they will create jobs and boost the economy.”

Julia also revealed plans for a National Reusable Pads Campaign to ensure that girls, especially in rural areas, stay in school. She described it as “heartbreaking” that some girls drop out because they cannot afford sanitary pads that cost up to 4,000 shillings.

“It is sad that a girl’s education can end because of a sanitary pad,” she said. “We will make sure every school has access to reusable pads.”

The youthful aspirant also promised to work with other leaders and organizations to help teen mothers return to school and rebuild their lives.

When asked about her political side, Julia said her campaign goes beyond party politics.

“This election is not about party colors,” she said. “Whether someone supports NRM, opposition, or is independent, we all face the same struggles, unemployment, poverty, and lack of opportunity. We must unite as youth to change that.”

Julia, who has previously served as Vice President of the Uganda National Students Association, said her past leadership experience gives her the confidence to speak for the young people of Uganda, especially the girls.

“The girl child must be seen, heard, and supported,” she said. “I want to use this position to make sure every young person feels included and empowered.”

Her message was met with cheers from supporters and youth leaders who praised her as a strong and relatable voice for the next generation.
