Bloody Clashes Rock Kyotera! NUP MP Mpalanyi Under Fire As Supporters Arrested For Attempted Murder Of Policeman

By Our Reporter

Tensions are escalating in Kyotera District after police arrested four supporters of National Unity Platform (NUP) incumbent Member of Parliament Paul Mpalanyi on charges of assaulting police officers and attempted murder.

According to Twaha Kasirye, the Greater Masaka Regional Police Spokesperson, the arrests followed violent clashes that broke out on October 23 when Mpalanyi’s convoy allegedly knocked down two supporters of his political rival, Hon. Kyeyune Kasolo, the NRM National Vice Chairman for Buganda Region.

Police report that during the chaos, Mpalanyi’s supporters not only attacked NRM supporters but also turned violent against officers who attempted to restore order. A police officer attached to Kyotera Police Station was reportedly stabbed and rushed to hospital in critical condition.

Investigations are ongoing, and sources indicate that Mpalanyi himself may soon face arrest for allegedly instructing his supporters to harm or even kill police officers during the confrontation. “We are treating this matter with the seriousness it deserves. The suspects are in custody, and more arrests are expected as investigations continue,” said a police source.

The incident has further fueled political tensions in Kyotera, a district that has become one of the most politically charged areas ahead of the 2026 general elections.

Observers note that Mpalanyi, who is already under fire for alleged misconduct and violent behavior, is now facing a major credibility crisis. Many voters are reportedly growing frustrated with his leadership style, accusing him of prioritizing political fights over service delivery.

Several constituents described Mpalanyi as a leader “more interested in confrontation than community development.” They claim his tenure has been marred by unnecessary clashes and little tangible progress on issues affecting ordinary people, such as road improvement, youth empowerment, and access to social services.

In sharp contrast, Hon. Kyeyune Kasolo’s star appears to be on the rise. Widely regarded as a seasoned mobilizer and development-oriented leader, Kasolo has reportedly won the hearts of many Kyotera residents through his calm demeanor, accessibility, and track record of delivering tangible results.

Local leaders in the district say Kasolo’s consistent engagement with grassroots communities has earned him trust and loyalty across political divides. “Kasolo listens to everyone farmers, traders, teachers. He doesn’t insult or fight; he solves problems,” said one local council leader.

As the 2026 race heats up, political analysts predict that the electorate is “ready to trash” Mpalanyi’s leadership. They cite fatigue over his constant controversies and growing admiration for Kasolo’s steady hand.

With investigations still underway and public opinion shifting fast, Kyotera is set to witness one of the most dramatic political battles in Greater Masaka that could redefine the district’s political future.
