Mukono Town was brought to a standstill on Tuesday as the Head of the Office of the National Chairman (ONC), Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, led a vibrant ONC Street Jam mobilization aimed at canvassing support for the NRM presidential flag bearer, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, while intensifying voter education to curb invalid votes ahead of Thursday’s elections.
The colorful procession stretched from Kigunga through the heart of Mukono Town Council to Wantoni, turning the busy Jinja Road corridor into a sea of yellow as thousands of President Museveni’s supporters, popularly known as Bazzukulu, thronged the streets in a show of solidarity.
Led by Namyalo, also fondly referred to as the Chief Muzukkulu, the procession preached the message of protecting the gains of the NRM government through disciplined and purposeful voting.
Addressing a massive crowd at Ngandu Town Council, Hajjat Namyalo who also serves as Senior Presidential Advisor on Political Affairs urged residents to reclaim Mukono’s political relevance by decisively backing NRM candidates at both the presidential and parliamentary levels.
“Mukono cannot continue crying from outside government when the solution is right in your hands,” Namyalo told the cheering crowd. “When you vote NRM, you vote yourselves into government and secure your rightful share of the national cake. This is the time to correct past mistakes and stand with a government that delivers.”
As part of ONC’s extended voter education campaign, Namyalo took time to practically demonstrate the correct way of voting, warning supporters against common errors that lead to invalid ballots.
“Your vote only counts when you place a tick or thumbprint inside the box opposite the bus,” she emphasized. “Any mark outside the box on the line or elsewhere automatically kills your vote, and that is exactly what our opponents want.”
During the interactive engagement, residents openly voiced their concerns, including the absence of a central public market despite Mukono’s municipal status and the alleged misuse of drugs in government health facilities by corrupt medical workers.
Several residents also expressed regret over repeatedly voting for the opposition, saying it had not translated into tangible empowerment for the community.
“We voted opposition for years, but they never brought us even a single programme,” said Musa Kato, a boda boda rider from Wantoni.
Sarah Nakato, a market vendor from Ngandu, echoed similar sentiments, saying, “It is ONC that has shown us hope through empowerment tools. This time, we are voting NRM from top to bottom.”
In response, Namyalo assured residents that their grievances would be escalated to the highest level.
“I have heard you clearly, and I will take your voices to the President himself,” she pledged. “Mukono deserves a public market and honest service delivery, and under the next NRM term, corrupt officials sabotaging government services will be dealt with decisively.”
The well-coordinated ONC Street Jam was attended by Mukono Municipality NRM flag bearer Daisy Nabatanzi Sarah Ssonko, alongside Mukono District ONC Coordinator John Bosco Wamala, as the region gears up for a decisive vote in support of President Museveni.
In his remarks, Wamala commended Namyalo for consistently offering voter education across the country during her recent mobilization tours and thanked her for sparing time to engage the people of Mukono.
He noted that during the 2021 elections, the NRM lost a significant number of votes due to invalid ballots arising from poor voting practices an issue he said would not recur in 2026 due to the intensive voter education being spearheaded by Namyalo.
Wamala further thanked Namyalo for boosting morale among party flag bearers who had been under pressure from opposition mobilization in Mukono, saying her visit had reassured both candidates and supporters. He also applauded residents for turning up in large numbers and committing to vote for President Museveni on the 15th.
