By Swift Reporter

Uganda’s diplomatic community is mourning the loss of Santa Laker Kinyera, whose decades-long career in foreign service ended with her passing on Tuesday morning.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that Kinyera died at Mulago Specialized National Referral Hospital, where she had been receiving treatment. The ministry described her death as a profound loss to the country’s diplomatic corps.

At the time of her passing, Kinyera was serving in Kigali as Uganda’s Deputy High Commissioner to Rwanda. Her assignment placed her at the center of delicate regional engagement, particularly during a period marked by renewed efforts to stabilize and strengthen relations between Uganda and Rwanda.

Having joined the foreign ministry in 1994, Kinyera built her reputation as a steady and committed career diplomat. Over more than 30 years of service, she rose through the ranks, contributing to Uganda’s representation abroad and playing a supporting role in initiatives aimed at boosting cross-border trade, security collaboration, and diplomatic dialogue.

While the ministry did not disclose the cause of death, it said further information regarding funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course.
