Kampala: The Manager of the Office of the National Chairman (ONC), Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo, has met with a delegation of journalists under the Uganda Journalists Union (UJU) during a courtesy visit at the ONC offices in Kyambogo, where discussions focused on the welfare and economic empowerment of media practitioners.

The journalists said the visit was intended to brief Namyalo on the challenges they face in the line of duty and to explore possible avenues of support that could improve their livelihoods. They explained that under their UJU umbrella, they are working toward organizing themselves in a structured way to uplift their standards of living.

During the meeting, the delegation informed Namyalo that they had established a Savings and Credit Cooperative Organization (SACCO) aimed at supporting journalists financially and promoting economic stability among members. They therefore requested empowerment support from the ONC to strengthen the SACCO and enable members to access financial opportunities.

In response, Namyalo welcomed the initiative, describing it as a positive step toward improving the welfare of journalists. She pledged to support their request and indicated that the matter would be addressed immediately after the ongoing holy month of Ramadan.

Namyalo further noted that she would deliver the journalists’ request to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, whom she described as the “grandfather of the Bazzukulu.” She expressed confidence that the President would positively consider the appeal, given his appreciation of the vital role journalists play in national development.

She emphasized that journalists remain key partners in promoting government programs and disseminating information that supports social and economic transformation in communities across the country.

In turn, the journalists commended Namyalo for what they described as her humility, dedication, and strong work ethic. They particularly praised her commitment to engaging communities at the grassroots and giving attention to the concerns of ordinary citizens.

According to the delegation, Namyalo has distinguished herself as a government official who understands the struggles of the common wananchi and remains accessible to those often sidelined in society. The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to continued engagement aimed at strengthening collaboration between the media fraternity and government institutions while improving the welfare of journalists.
