One journalist was injured on Wednesday morning after a Uganda Prisons vehicle transporting murder suspect Christopher Okello Anyu lost control and rammed into members of the media near court venue.
According to eyewitnesses at the scene, the Prisons “drone” vehicle had just arrived carrying the suspect when it began to malfunction. Officers escorting the vehicle reportedly noticed it was losing control as it approached the court tent, prompting them to quickly jump away.
The vehicle then rolled backward, crashing into journalists and bystanders who had gathered near the court to cover the proceedings.
The incident caused panic, with journalists, police officers, and members of the public scrambling for safety. Some of the officers who had been guarding the suspect were later seen rushing back toward the vehicle to secure it and ensure the suspect did not escape during the confusion.
One journalist, Ronald Mulwana, believed to have been caught off guard, was struck by the vehicle and deep sustained injuries. The condition of the injured journalist has not yet been officially confirmed as he was immediately rushed to hospital.
Authorities later removed the vehicle from the scene using a carrier truck, reportedly for mechanical inspection.
By the time of filing this report, officials had not yet issued a formal statement regarding the cause of the incident. More details are expected as investigations continue.
