Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Kawala Racheal has confirmed that the accident involving a Uganda Prisons Service vehicle at Ggaba Trading Centre was caused by a suspected brake failure.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday morning at around 9:00am between Maranatha Primary School and Maranatha High School, left journalist Ronald Mulwana injured.
According to police, the Toyota Hiace (drone) vehicle, registration number UU 00067 T, was transporting murder suspect Christopher Okello Anyu to the Mobile Court when it developed mechanical failure and lost control, hitting people at the scene.
Owoyesigyire said the injured journalist was immediately rushed to Mulago National Referral Hospital for treatment, and investigations into the exact cause of the malfunction are ongoing.
Police have since removed the vehicle from the scene for technical inspection as authorities work to establish full circumstances surrounding the incident.
