Kampala University on Thursday held its 23rd graduation ceremony at its Ggaba Main Campus, with a total of 3,514 students awarded degrees and diplomas in various disciplines.
The graduates, drawn from the university’s different campuses including Luweero, Masaka, Jinja and Mutundwe, reflected a diverse academic background with a near equal representation of male and female students. The ceremony marked a significant milestone for the institution as it continues to expand its contribution to higher education in Uganda.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Head of the Office of the National Chairman Kyambogo, Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, commended the university’s founder, Professor Hajji Badru Kateregga, for his role in job creation and entrepreneurship, noting his contribution to strengthening the country’s education sector.
“Professor Kateregga is one of the people who first held my hand. The first money I ever had in my pocket came from him after I worked at Kampala University as a marketeer,” Namyalo said, as she recounted her early connection with the institution.
She encouraged the graduates to remain focused and disciplined as they transition into the next phase of their lives.
“I urge you to work towards a brighter future and stay on the right path as you look for better opportunities after your graduation,” she advised.
In a show of support to the institution, Namyalo purchased 100 magazines for graduands, a gesture she said was aimed at promoting the university’s continued growth and future progress.
“This is to support the future flow and continued progress of the university,” she added.
The ceremony was also marked by personal celebrations among graduates, including the Office of the National Chairman’s Greater Masaka Media Coordinator, Abaho Badru, who graduated with a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Administration and Management.
Abaho, a former student leader, shared his achievement with Namyalo during the event, expressing gratitude and optimism about the future.
“I am grateful for this milestone and the support I have received along the way. This achievement is not just for me, but for everyone who believed in me,” Abaho said.
He revealed plans to host a graduation celebration on May 3, 2026, at Skyline Motel in Masaka City and invited Namyalo to attend.
“I will be holding my graduation ceremony on May 3 at Skyline Motel in Masaka City, and I humbly invite you to be part of this special moment,” he said.
Abaho further pledged to use his academic achievement to better his life and contribute meaningfully to society.
“I am committed to using this diploma to uplift myself and to make a positive impact in my community,” he added.
The ceremony closed on a high note, with graduates and their families celebrating years of hard work and dedication, as the university reaffirmed its role in shaping future leaders and professionals.
