Ubuntu! Big Hearted Namyalo Returns To Katwe As Single Mother Rebuilds Her Life Through ONC Empowerment

The Manager of the Office of the National Chairman (ONC), Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, has returned to Katwe to follow up on the progress of Kyomugisha Babra, a struggling single mother whose life was transformed after receiving support from the ONC during a recent voter register verification exercise.

Hajjat Namyalo first met Kyomugisha while monitoring the display of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) village committee voters’ registers ahead of the forthcoming Local Council I (LC I) elections. At the time, a viral social media video highlighting the mother’s desperate living conditions had drawn public attention to her plight.

During the exercise, Kyomugisha emotionally narrated the hardships she and her children had endured for years. She revealed that she had no stable source of income, frequently slept hungry, and struggled to provide even the most basic necessities for her family.

She also disclosed that although her children’s school fees amounted to UGX 150,000, she could sometimes only raise UGX 3,000, leaving the children at risk of missing school due to unpaid tuition.

Moved by her story, Hajjat Namyalo immediately stepped in with practical support aimed at helping the family rebuild their lives. Rather than offering temporary relief alone, she provided Kyomugisha with startup capital to establish a small business, enabling her to earn a sustainable income and become self-reliant.

After personally visiting the makeshift shelter where Kyomugisha and her children had been living, Hajjat Namyalo was further touched by the family’s conditions. She arranged for them to relocate to a self-contained house, with rent fully paid for one year, giving them a safe and dignified place to call home.

The new house was also furnished with essential household items, including a mattress, blankets, clothing, food supplies and other necessities to help the family settle comfortably.

During her latest visit to Katwe, Hajjat Namyalo checked on Kyomugisha’s welfare and encouraged her to remain focused on using the support to build a better future for herself and her children. The visit underscored ONC’s commitment not only to extending assistance but also to ensuring beneficiaries are progressing toward long-term economic independence.

Speaking with gratitude, Kyomugisha said the intervention had restored her hope after years of despair.

“I never imagined that anyone would come to my rescue in this way. I had lost hope in life and did not expect to receive such overwhelming support. Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo wiped away my tears, restored my dignity, gave me and my children a new beginning, and even provided me with capital to start a business. I will always be grateful to her. May God richly bless her,” she said.

The Office of the National Chairman says the intervention reflects its broader mission of uplifting vulnerable Ugandans through empowerment initiatives that combine humanitarian assistance with economic opportunities. By equipping beneficiaries with resources to become self-reliant, the office aims to create lasting improvements in livelihoods while restoring dignity to families facing extreme hardship.
